Supporting Local Volunteers Making a Difference
Portadown Credit Union was delighted to make a donation to local sewing group, Pins and Needles, a cross-community voluntary organisation dedicated to supporting both the NHS and people within our local community.
Using donated fabric sourced from charity shops and community members, the group creates beautiful handmade knee quilts which are gifted to patients receiving treatment at Craigavon Area Hospital. These quilts provide comfort and warmth to those undergoing lengthy cancer treatments which each recipient gets to keep.
To date, Pins and Needles have donated more than 300 quilts to the hospital, as well as providing 100 quilts to vulnerable members of the local community. All materials and running costs are funded by the volunteers themselves, making their contribution even more remarkable. We hope that our donation will help support the group's ongoing expenses and allow them to continue their valuable work.
The volunteers meet weekly at the Darby & Joan Club in Portadown, as well as dedicating many hours in their own homes to sewing and creating these thoughtful gifts. In addition to their charitable work, they are also helping to pass on valuable skills by teaching young people how to sew.
At Portadown Credit Union, we are proud to support organisations like Pins and Needles that embody the spirit of community, kindness and volunteerism. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the volunteers who generously give their time and talents to bring comfort to people when they need it most.
