PCU supports Portadown Men's Shed
Portadown Credit Union are delighted to make a donation to Portadown Men's Shed. Portadown Men's Shed was inaugurated mid-September at ABC Community Network, Thomas Street, Portadown. The shed is an organisation for men aged generally 30 and over who have some time on their hands and would like something meaningful to do. The organisation offers the opportunity to meet new friends in a safe and caring environment.
The donation will help construct a new shed at Edenvilla Park and contribute to day to day running costs. The shed provides a safe space for men experiencing isolation and loneliness and for those individuals possibly recovering from health problems. This may be to offer men the opportunity to partake in a community project to build confidence and self-esteem or simply just chat over a cup of tea.
What they do?
They aspire to provide support and companionship while working together on community projects. They have currently built a pergola for the breast cancer charity Knitted Knockers NI: planters and gazebos for Lawrencetown, Lenaderg and Tullylish Community Association as well as sheds and playground equipment for primary schools in Bleary and Ballyoran.
Other projects have included gardening projects in St John the Baptist School and some artwork in Portadown Cares Hub.
Portadown Men's Shed is a cross community organisation which welcomes a diverse range of men. They currently met for a couple of hours on Monday evenings, Wednesday mornings/afternoons and as required thursday afternoons.
