Credit Unions Celebrate International Credit Union (ICU) Day® 2025: Cooperation for a Prosperous World

On Thursday, 16 October 2025, Portadown Credit Union will proudly stand with financial cooperatives around the world to celebrate International Credit Union (ICU) Day 2025. As we mark the 77th anniversary of this global occasion, we reflect on the powerful ethos of our movement: Cooperation for a Prosperous World. This year’s theme highlights our collective commitment to a future built on mutual support and financial empowerment.

Since its founding, the credit union movement has been a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change. The “people helping people” philosophy is not just a slogan—it is the very foundation of our work. At Portadown Credit Union, we believe that every local effort, from a single loan to a community bursary, contributes to a more prosperous and equitable world.

This past year has been one of significant achievement, driven by our unwavering focus on member needs. Our digital and in-person services have evolved to better serve you, while our community projects have continued to make a tangible difference.

Paula Larkin, Manager at Portadown Credit Union said, “For over 60 years, Portadown Credit Union has been a financial anchor in the Portadown area, serving a proud membership of 12,000 individuals. In the past year, we have injected £6.8 million in loans back into our local economy, fuelling the dreams and ambitions of our members. As a not-for-profit cooperative, our success is measured by the financial health and wellbeing of the people we serve. This ICU Day, we celebrate the powerful principle of cooperation that allows us to build a better future, together.”
